Although as a team we span nearly the entire western hemisphere, we at Roundtable still delight in discussing amongst ourselves the various books, albums, movies, and more that better our lives – in both little and big ways – everyday. Check out our curated list of required reading and various artistic leisures. We hope it inspires you as much as it did us.

Why I am No Longer Talking to White People about Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge

"I’ve been re-reading some parts just to remind myself that I am not opening myself to the emotional exhaustion that comes with trying to explain simple concepts to people who choose not to understand." - Ayoade, senior editor

The Descent of Man by Grayson Perry

"A really funny and insightful exploration of modern masculinity that I have recommended to every single one of my male friends (and my brothers)(and my dad)(and just random male strangers demonstrating toxic masculinity.)" - Bella, features editor

Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston

"This book was written during the '70s, which is when the Women’s Liberation Movement reared its ferocious head in America. Maxine Hong Kingston’s fantastical narrative explores Asian femininity with raw poignance and a fierce expression." - Sarah, online content editor

Music

sovereign nose of (y)our arrogant face by Scallops Hotel -

"When I’m being even more of an extra moody sad girl, I love these poetic slow beats written and produced by a 25-year-old Black man living in Maine." -Sarah, online content editor

Freudian by Daniel Caesar

"This one of the most beautiful bodies of work I have ever listened to. I feel like I should pepper this statements with some kind of description but I really have no words." -Ayoade

"The musical embodiment of sex." - Sarah

Autumn Leaves by Leslie Odom Jr. (from Tony Bennett Celebrates 90)

"Just a really solid song for staring out of rain-drizzled windows that also makes you want to get up and sway in an old-school jazzy way" - Bella
